Privacy Policy
EthioBazaar is in its research phase. This page explains, in plain language, what we collect when you join the waitlist, why, and what you can do about it.
What we collect
- Survey answers: your role (business or individual), business types or interests, the questions you answer, your country, city and optional area or postcode.
- Contact details: email address and, for businesses or if you choose to share it, a phone or WhatsApp number. Businesses also share a business name, contact name and optional website, social links or a menu or catalog.
- Referral information: the referral code you were invited with, and the code we create for you.
- Technical information: an anonymous session identifier, device type (mobile, tablet or desktop), browser user agent, and which survey steps were viewed, completed or abandoned. This log never contains your name, email or phone number.
Why we collect it
- To understand where Ethiopian customers and businesses are, and what they need, so we can decide what to build and where to launch first.
- To contact you about early access, founding business or creator opportunities, and founder interviews if you asked for one.
- To send you marketing updates, only if you ticked the separate marketing consent box. You can withdraw that consent at any time.
- To measure and improve the waitlist itself (for example, which step people abandon).
Analytics
We ask before enabling Google Analytics (Firebase Analytics). If you decline, no Google Analytics cookies are set. Independently of that choice, our own first-party log records anonymous funnel events (page and step views) without any personal information, so we can see where demand comes from and where people drop off.
What we do not do
- We do not sell your data.
- We do not display fake statistics about our community, and we will not publish your details.
- Joining the waitlist is not a contract and does not guarantee a launch date, a service in your city, or any commercial terms.
Content you upload
If you upload a menu, catalog or similar file, or share recipes, photos or videos, you keep full ownership. Uploading gives us permission to look at it for research and to prepare for the marketplace. Any commercial publication of recipes, videos or other creative content will require a separate written agreement.
Where your data lives and how long we keep it
Survey answers and contact details are stored in a database dedicated to EthioBazaar, hosted on infrastructure we control. Uploaded files are stored in Google Firebase Storage. We keep waitlist data until the marketplace launches in your area and you create an account, or until you ask us to delete it, whichever comes first.
Your choices and rights
- Ask us what we hold about you, correct it, or have it deleted.
- Withdraw marketing consent at any time. Every marketing email includes an unsubscribe option.
- Decline or later disable analytics cookies in your browser settings.

Changes
We will update this page as EthioBazaar grows. The date at the top tells you when it last changed. Significant changes will be announced to people on the waitlist.
